Malawi (June 1983 - Sept. 1983)

After my 'Vordiplom' (Bachelor) I flew via Moscow to Dar-es-Salaam, from there by train to the border with Zambia, by bus into Malawi and by steamer along Lake Malawi to its very south. Here I stayed at a GTZ (then the German Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit) project in Liwonde, from where I designed and - with assistance of two local interviewers - conducted a survey of small-scale enterprises in the rural Kawinga region between the lakes of Chilwa and Chiuta.

Interpretation of the findings I did in my student apartment in Germany, where I elaborated my 'Diplomarbeit' (master thesis) in English language at the University of Würzburg.
